With the upcoming l4d sdk and me dying for a 40k shooter, i decided to post this.
And even though this will probably never be done im just gonna post
because i wanna see what people think about it and to have it written down in case
i someday magically obtain the necessary skills to do it myself.
Gameplay
The gameplay is pretty straight forward.
Marines start in a small trench or fortress, the tyranids spawn from a hive.
The attackers are the tyranids, obviously and have to destroy the Marines before time runs out.
They start with a certain amount of point that players use to spawn tyranids.
For example: the first wave has 50 points to its disposal. a hormogaunt brood (a swarm, not a single unit) might cost 10 points, while a warrior costs 15-20 points.
The amount of points will increase which each wave.
The Marines just need to survive, that simple really.
Accuracy will be increased if crouched or standing still.
Iron sights aren't needed.
The Units might be:
The Adeptus Astartes
The Tactical Marine. The standard unit of the Space Marines can carry a variety of weapons.
Bolter: Standard Machinegun, serves its purpuse as an allrounder well.
Flamethrower: Selfexplanatory, area damage but chews up a lot of ammo. Also slows the Marine down a little.
Rocket Launcher: A simple dumbfire RPG, high damage (especially good against larger enemies), high splash, extremely slow reload and low ammo capacity.
Left Click: Fire weapon.
Right Click: Melee (to knock back attackers, no meleespam a la L4D tho since that power armor is pretty heavy. Also doesn't deal any damage.)
The Devastator Marine. A heavy support unit with passive ammo dispensing.
The Dev. Marine wields either a Heavy bolter - a larger Bolter with higher damage and rate of fire (can overheat)- or a plasma cannon with high splash and damage but slow rate of fire and projectile speed. Both Weapons can only be fired while standing still and require a setup time a la TF2-Minigun. This takes approximately 2 seconds.
Left Click: First left click will set up gun, second left click to fire. Move and you will have to set up anew.
Right Click: Melee (same as Tac. Marine.)
The Assault Marine. A heavy Melee unit with high health and faster out-of-combat healt regeneration than other classes. Weilds either
sawblade(areal damage in an arc in fron of the marine) and
bolterpistol(Large caliber semi automatic pistol, high accuracy and damage,
low ammo capacity (4-6 shots)
or
Powerblade(higher damage, smaller arc) and
Shield(protects the marine from all incoming frontal attacks for a certain amount of time)
In addition to this, the Assault Marine also has a Jumppack which he can use to jump onto enemies, killing them instantly or to get away fast.
Left Click: Blade attack
Right Click: Fire bolterpistol/raise shield
Space (double tapped): Activate Jumppack.
The Scout. This fellow has the ability to become completely invisible for a certain amount of time. Bumping into enemies will reveal him for 1.5 seconds.
The scout uses either automatic shotguns or sniper rifles (good against larger enemies) He is also capable of plantin proximity mines and/or (not sure yet) remote explosives. His low health however makes im easy pray once surrounded. He is faster than his heavy armored buddies, but still cannot outrun hormogaunts. Warriors are no match for his speed.
Space Marines can heal themselves in two ways:
They either stay out of combat for some time so that their nanobots can get to work, or use a stimpack that fully recovers all their health. These stimpacks will be sent between waves and you can only carry 2 of them, except for scouts who can carry 3, so they should be your last resort since waves will be longer each time.
The marines can also change their loadout at any time by visiting the armory to adapt to their current situation.
If a Marines health reaches 0 he goes down and starts to bleed out and has to be rescued by another marine, similiar to L4D but quicker. He is unable to do anything while bleeding out.
If he is completely dead afterwards, a timer will begin. After that timer has run out, he will redeploy after the current wave ends. That however, might take a looong time on higher levels.
The Tyranid Swarm
Hormogant Brood. The player will control multiple (8-12) of these agile little devils at once in third person view. Their sheer numbers make up for their physical weakness. Their large numbers also make it possible for them to surround enemies compeletely, which renders them immobile. Easy Pray for the
Warrior Brood. Warriors are the hormogaunts bigger brother. They have higher health, armor and damage. However, due to their size they are pretty heavy. This results in slower movement and attack speed.
(I don't know yet whether you should be able to control multiple of them or just one)
BOSS The Carnifex. This walking terror is roughly the size of a small house and brings death and devestation to every battlefield. The entire team will have to coorporate in order to bring this beast to it's knees. The Carnifex is slow, but deadly nevertheless.A single charged blow will kill knock out any marine instantly. It has extremely high health and armor, regular bolter fire will do little damage. It also has the "Charge!" ability. The carnifex storms forward, knocking away everything in it's path and dealing heavy damage. His swings are extensive, dealing heavy damage in a large arc and can be charged for even higher damage and bigger arc.
The Carnifex can only be summoned when a certain amount of damage has been dealt by a player. Whoever reaches this amount first gains control of this monster.
Tyranids can replenish their health and lost units by vising the hive. Doing this will cost no points. It is always a good idea to conserve points by doing this, since this will lengthen the duration of your wave and hopefully reduce the duration of the marines lifespan.
So that's it. Im also thinking of an upgrade or leveling system, but im too lazy and tired to add that now. I had to type this twice because i accidentially went a page back and BOOM it was gone. Also might add pics later.
